SOT SPOTLIGHT GAME OF THE WEEK: Sandusky Perkins Pirates vs Elyria Catholic Panthers

Elyria, OH – Week 2 of the 2023 Season is here and we are set for a plethora of great non-conference matchups. Sports on Tap is the only place to get the best coverage of High School football in Northeast Ohio. Our spotlight game this week feature the home opener for the Elyria Catholic Panthers and their new coaching staff. Week 1 did not go as planned as the Panthers lost 45-14, the road does not get any easier as they play host to the Pirates of Sandusky Perkins. Can the panthers right the ship?

The Pirates jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as QB Logan Lesch led the scoring of 49 points in the first half. Lesch would be responsible for 6 of the 6 Pirate TDs in the half.

Panthers would score early in the game on a QB run from Hector Garcia IV , and would end the half with a 69 yd TD pass and catch to make the score 49-13 at the half.

With a running clock in the second half, Lesch would add his 7th TD of the night on a 75 yd TD Pass to Brady Legando.

Elyria Catholic would score on a 9 yd TD run from Jayden Ramos in the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, the Pirates would add another score, a 10 yd run from Levi Jackson, and complete the dominating 62-19 victory.

Perkins improves to 2-0 on the year and were led offensively by QB Logan Lesch who had 7 TDs on the night overall, 1 rushing and 6 passing TDs. RB Isaac Bunts 2 TDS, 1 rushing TD, 1 passing TD. WRs Weston Sturzinger, Brady Legando (2), and Braylon Collier each had TD Receptions. The Pirates will look to keep rolling in week 3 as they host Rocky River.

Elyria Catholic falls to 0-2 on the season and were led offensively by QB Hector Garcia IV with two TDs on the night, 1 passing and 1 rushing. The Panthers will look to get their first win of the season in week 3 as they travel to take on Midview.
