VIDEO Highlights: Week 6 SOT Featured Game: North Olmsted outlasts Westlake 41-20 to improve to 5-1 and a top the GLC.

North Olmsted, OH- A Week 6 matchup that used to be two Southwestern Conference foes battled as Great Lakes Conference foes this week. A perfect night for football under the lights on a Friday night as an important Great Lakes Conference matchup between the Westlake Demons (2-3) and the North Olmsted Eagles (4-1) featured our SOT Game of the Week.

It was the Eagles striking first on an 85 yard opening kickoff return by WR Eric Wasen outrunning the Demons special teams. Westlake would answer with a nice drive, that led to a touchdown run from RB Arrington Taylor. Both teams moved the ball efficiently but after one quarter the score was tied at 7 a piece.

The second quarter started and North Olmsted was in the red zone once again. QB Xavier Balson fumbled the snap but grabbed it and went around the right side for a touchdown outrunning the Westlake defense to the endzone. Westlake would answer with a RB Will Ostrowski 45 yard touchdown run to tie the game at 14 with 6:58 left in the second quarter. The second quarter had North Olmsted score two more times and have a 27-14 lead at halftime.

Westlake would get as close as 27-20 with a pick 6 by DB Cooper Rummel.  A great job by the Eagles running attack as RB Sammy Capps carried the eagles in the second half for the big 41-20 win!  The Eagles defense also stopped a really good offense in the second half.

North Olmsted improves to 5-1 on the season and a top the GLC. They will take on Bay (3-2) in Week 7. Westlake falls to 2-4 and will host Elyria Catholic (4-2).

VIDEO Highlights: Week 4 SOT Featured Game: Lakewood Rangers stay undefeated, outlasting the Rocky River Pirates 21-14.

Rocky River, OH- A beautiful night set the stage for Week 4 of the high school football season in the Great lakes Conference. For our featured game we traveled to Rocky River High School where the visiting Lakewood Rangers looked to stay a perfect 4-0 as they took on the Rocky River Pirates. The atmosphere was electric and both teams were ready for a big GLC game in front of a great crowd.

It took 3 plays for Rocky River to strike first on a 45 yard touchdown run by RB Tommy Bebie. He was doing it all in the game, supplying the offense with big plays, but making crucial tackles on the defensive side of the ball as well. Lakewood would counter with a talented running back of their own in Hakeem Quran. Quran also played defense and made some nice open field tackles on the night. He answered with a screen pass from QB Luke Winters that hit pay dirt and tied the game at 7-7 with :46 left in the first half. In the second half it was Rocky River scoring first with QB Braedon Spies running it on and taking a 14-7 lead. Again, Lakewood would answer with a Hakeen Quran touchdown to tie the game 14-14. With 2:35 left in the game it was Hakeen Quran scoring from 9 yards out. That proved to be the difference as the Rangers held on the rest of the way. After having 7 touchdowns last week Quran scored all three touchdowns for the Rangers in this game. The Pirates had touchdowns from Tommy Bebie and QB Braedon Spies. Both defenses played physical and tough.

Lakewood outlasted Rocky River 21-14 to improve to 4-0 on the season with Normandy (1-3) up next. Rocky River falls to 2-2 and will face another tough opponent in week 5 Elyria Catholic.

By Sean Duffy

Medina, OH- The Buckeye Bucks needed a late rally survive week 3 and remain unbeaten with a 27-26 victory over the visiting Copley Indians. The Bucks were able to ride RB Ben Barnes and his three TDs to overcome back from a 12 point 4th quarter deficit. Barnes was able to rush for two TDS late in the fourth quarter to lead his team to victory and provide the the home team fans a drama filled football Friday night in Medina. Buckeye’s Defense was able to to stop Copley’s attack after taking the lead late in the fourth quarter, forcing a crucial fumble that the Bucks recovered in the Copley red zone. After converting a first down by the nose of the football, Buckeye’s comeback was complete.

Copley’s Preston Taylor put on an impressive performance in a losing effort accounting for all 26 of the Indians’ points. Taylor would score four rushing TDs, three of those coming in the first half. Taylor’s final TD came at the opening of the fourth quarter.
