Searches for Next Head Coach
Strongsville, OH (April 14, 2025) – Strongsville City Schools announced today that Kevin Sapara will not be returning as head coach of the Mustangs varsity boys basketball program at Strongsville High School for the 2025-26 season. His decision was recently announced to the current members and families of the Mustangs boys basketball program.
Strongsville City Schools would like to thank Coach Sapara for his passion and commitment to the Strongsville basketball program and for his hard work and dedication over the past five seasons as varsity head coach. Some of the highlights and accomplishments of the program under Coach Sapara’s leadership include:
● SHS Overall Varsity Record: 78-41
● Three OHSAA Postseason Tournament District Appearances
● Coach Sapara was Named Division I District Coach of the Year (2024)
● Coached Greater Cleveland Conference Boys Basketball Player of the Year – Josh Byers (2025)
● Coached More Than 20 All-Conference Student-Athletes During His Five Years with the Mustangs
● Numerous School Records Broken by Individual Players in Program During His Five Year Tenure
● Overall Varsity Record During His Head Coaching Career: 219-156
“I have loved every second of being the head coach of the Strongsville basketball program throughout the past five years. I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to lead the basketball program at my alma mater. It was a privilege that I took very seriously. I am grateful for all of the players, coaches, and community members that make Strongsville such a special place to be. I have had so many unbelievable memories throughout the past five years that I will treasure forever. Having grown up here in Strongsville and being a 2000 SHS graduate, Strongsville will always be a special place to me,” said Coach Sapara.
“It is with a mixture of gratitude and sadness that we announce Coach Kevin Sapara’s decision to step down as the varsity boys basketball head coach at Strongsville High School after five successful seasons. Coach Sapara has been a dedicated leader and mentor to our student-athletes, fostering relationships built on trust, respect, and encouragement. His commitment to the development of each player, both on and off the court, has left a lasting impact on our basketball program and the entire school community. Coach Sapara’s passion for the game of basketball was evident in his coaching style, inspiring players to strive for excellence. His ability to cultivate talent and instill a love for the game will be remembered fondly by players and fans alike. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors and look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of our basketball program in the years to come. Coach Sapara’s dedication has placed Strongsville in a great place for the future of the program and will allow our next head coach to build on and continue the positive momentum of boys basketball at Strongsville High School,” said Mr. Denny Ziegler, Athletic Director at Strongsville High School.
The search process for the next Mustangs varsity boys basketball head coach will begin immediately. Strongsville City Schools is committed to finding the right coach to continue the vision and lead Mustangs basketball from the youth levels through the varsity program.
