Week 2 Game of the Week: Brunswick 28 Medina 21

SOT Game of the Week: Medina versus Brunswick

What a difference a week makes. Last week was soggy. This week was perfect. SOT traveled to Brunswick as the Blue Devils (0-1) hosted the 0-1 Medina Bees. Brunswick, coming off a 14-7 loss against Euclid, started the scoring when Jake Sherette took it to the house from 48 yards on their first possession. Medina would answer later in the quarter when Drew Allar hit Wide Receiver Luke Hensley in the end zone for their first touchdown.

As they did in the first quarter, Brunswick was first to score in the second when Running Back Nick Vadini bulldozed into the end zone from the 1 yard line. On the next drive Allar hit Hensley from 28 yards tying the score at 14 with 8 minutes left in the half. Brunswick stingy defense was able to pick off Allar at the 4:20 mark in the second quarter. Brunswick was able to drive down and score the go ahead touchdown with 12 seconds left on the clock. Brunswick went into halftime hold a 21-14 lead.

On Brunswick’s first possession of the second half, team captain, Jake Sherette suffered what appeared to be devastating lower leg injury. The Blue Devils appeared to gain motivation from the injury. On the next play after Sherette was carried off on a stretcher, Nick Vadini scored his second touchdown on the night to make it 28-14 in the 3rd quarter.

From there, the Brunswick defense stepped up. The group constantly pressured Medina QB Drew Allar into making rushed throws and throwing three interceptions in the half. Late in the fourth, Medina started to mount a charge. A big 35 yard catch by Brennen Shramm set up a 1 yard touchdown run by Dorian Boyland cutting the Brunswick lead at half 28-21. Brunswick would end up forcing Medina into another turnover on downs situation. The last one resulted in a loss for Medina dropping their record to 0-2 on the season. Brunswick improves to 1-1 and will travel to Elyria, while Medina drops to 0-3 and will travel to Strongsville.
