SOT Playoff Spotlight Game: Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees vs Westlake Demons

Westlake, OH- The Journey to an Ohio State High School Football Championship begins in earnest with the first-round matchups for each division and corresponding regions this week. The phrase win or go home has never been more relevant than it is this week. The opening round of the playoffs offer a hodge podge of matchups that can range from utter blowouts to thrilling back and forth contests. Our spotlight game of the week has the potential fall into the latter category in Division II Region 6. The #9 seeded Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees (5-5) out of the Suburban League National Conference, travel to take on the #8 seeded Westlake Demons (7-3) out of the Great Lakes Conference West Division.

Brecksville QB Colin Siefert got off to a rocky start throwing an interception on his first pass attempt. Westlake would convert the turnover into 3 points on a 22 yd FG by Sean Evilsizer, Westlake jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.

The lead and the momentum would be short lived as the Bees got back on track in a big way thanks to RB Eli Beach and his smashmouth style of running. Beach would score two rushing touchdowns in the first half. The Bees defense was also on display with a safety, and a blocked punt that led to Beach’s second touchdown. Brecksville took a 16-3 lead into halftime.

The Bees would continue to dominate the game in the second half, first scoring on a 24 yd TD pass from Colin Seibert to Kyle Keener. Bees RB Eli Beach would score his third touchdown of the night to stretch their lead to 30-3. That score would be the nail in the coffin for the Demons, as the Bees would cruise to a 30-6 first round playoff victory.

Westlake finishes the year 7-4 overall, offensively, the Demons were unable to really get anything going. Stalling on multiple 4th and goals, and allowing a blocked punt as well as two fumbled kickoff returns deep in their own territory.

Brecksville improves to 6-5 overall, they were led offensively by RB Eli Beach who scored three rushing TDs in the game. QB Colin Seibert had a touchdown pass in the game to Kyle Keener. The Bees move on to the second round of the Division II Region 6 playoffs against #1 seed Avon (11-0),
