Avon’s defense kept the Bulldogs offense in check, and Avon QB Sam Detillio had 2 touchdown passes on the night. Elyria, OH- It all comes down to this, the Great Lakes Conference championship game. The East Division Champion is the Holy Name Green Wave (6-2, 5-0) who are looking to keep rolling after their Week 9 victory over Buckeye. The West Division Champion is Elyria Catholic Panthers (7-1, 5-0), They have been on a roll since their overtime loss to Sandusky Perkins. These two teams are no strangers to each other as they met in a cross division match up in Week 4, in which the Panthers got the 28-14 victory. can the Green Wave avenge that loss when it matters most? Or will the Panthers reign supreme as Great Lakes Conference Champion?
Holy Name got off to a hot start scoring on their opening drive as Senior QB Jayvon Williams connected with Adrian Wondolowski for a 25 yd TD pass. The Namers jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.

Elyria Catholic would get on the board thanks to a 26 yd FG by Anthony DeMartinis. At the end of the first quarter Holy Name led 7-3.

The second quarter belonged to the Panthers, more specifically Panther RB Levi Ellis, who would notch two more TDs in the half. Ellis’ first touchdown of the quarter was an electric 96 yd touchdown run.

Ellis would find the end zone again this time through the air as he tossed a 12 yd TD pass to Senior Tony Grasso. The Panthers took a 17-7 into the half.

If the second quarter belonged to Elyria Catholic, the third quarter was all Holy Name as the Green Wave would seize the momentum scoring 21 unanswered points. Holy Name’s First TD of the third quarter came on a contested TD pass from Javon Williams to WR Kevin Pivonka.

Holy Name would recover the Panther’s fumble on the ensuing kickoff, taking over deep in Panthers territory. Adrian Wondolowski would score his second TD of the night from 3 yds out. Holy name now led 21-17 midway through the quarter.

Holy Name would close out the third quarter with another TD run from 2 yds out from Adrian Wondolowski. The third quarter came to an end with Holy Name leading 28-17.

Elyria Catholic would score midway through the fourth quarter on a 6 yd TD rumble from Levi Ellis for his third TD of the night, Ellis would also score on the two-point conversion attempt, Holy Name led 28-25.
That would be as close as the Panthers would get as Holy Name would tack on two more TDs in the fourth quarter. Jayvon Williams would score on a 46 Yd TD run and Senor RB Kriztion Sanchez would score on an 8 yd TD run as time was running out in the game, giving the Green Wave a 42-25 Victory, and the Great Lakes Conference Championship.

Elyria Catholic ends the regular season 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the Great Lake Conference. The Panthers were led offensively by Senior RB Levi Ellis who had 3 TDs on the night, 2 Rushing TDs and 1 passing TD. Elyria currently sit 4th in Division IV Region 14 and will likely host a round 1 playoff game in Week 1 of the 2022 OHSAA High School Football Playoffs.
The Holy Name Green Wave finish the regular season 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the Great Lakes Conference, they are the 2022 Great Lakes Conference champions.
