SOT Podcast Game of the Week : Brunswick Blue Devils vs North Royalton Bears

North Royalton, OH–  The SOT Game of the Week features another cross town rival, hearkening back to the old Pioneer Conference Days. The Brunswick Blue Devils are 1-0, coming off an impressive win in week 1 over Lorain, Travel a over interstate 71 to take on the 1-0 North Royalton Bears.  North Royalton looked impressive in their week 1 victory over North Ridgeville.  Both teams look to gain another non conference win and continue positive momentum into the young 2019 campaign.  It’s a beautiful night for high school football!

Brunswick started the game with the ball and wasted no time putting points on the board with a 63 yd scoring drive, capped by a 33 yd TD pass from Junior QB Jacob Scherette to Senior WR Jack Miller.  Brunswick jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 8:55 left in the 1st quarter.

Brunswick’s defense was just as impressive forcing Bears QB Joe Marousek to throw an interception to Senior DB Christian Kovacek, setting the Blue Devils up around midfield.  Brunswick would again put together a quick scoring drive, capped by a 6 yd TD run by Scherette to put the visiting Blue Devils up 14-0 with 7:26 remaining in the opening quarter.  The Blue Devil’s defense would again stifle any momentum on the next bears drive and force a punt.  Brunswick would end the quarter driving deep into Bear Territory looking to add to their 14-0 lead.

Jacob Scherette would rush for his second touchdown for the night to open the 2nd quarter, this time from 5 yds out.  Brunswick would lead 21-0 with 11:20 left in the half.   Bear’s QB Joey Marousek would again be picked off this time by Senior Kyle Scherette , Blue Devils took possession deep in Bear territory.  Two Plays later Jacob Scherette would connect with Senior WR Jacob Dye for a 17 yd TD, Brunswick now led 28-0 with 9:17 left in the half.   Brunswick’s defense would force a punt on the next North Royalton offensive drive.  Brunswick’s Junior RB Nicholas Vadini would rattle off a 46 yd Td run and the blue devil lead swelled to 35- 0 with 5:33 remaining in the half.  Brunswick’s defense would force two sacks, Juniors Tomas Rimac and Bruan Klesch, and a third interception of the night for Marousek, Sophomore Dylan Emert.   Brunswick would again score on 6 yd Td pass from Scherette to Senior WR Nicholas Hoover as the half came to an end.  Brunswick would take a 42-0 lead into half time 

Facing a running clock to start the the second half North Royalton looked to get something going offensively in order to get back in the game. unfortunately the Brunswick Defense had other ideas, forcing yet another punt and stifling any momentum.  Brunswick would turn to their backups on offense who would salt away the majority of the third quarter.  The third quarter came to an end with Brunswick holding a 42-0 lead.

Brunwick’s Junior RB Brandon Koenig kicked off the 4th quarter with a 12 yd TD run to put the Blue Devils up to an insurmountable 49-0 lead with 11:45 left in the game.  That touchdown would prove to be the final nail in the coffin for  North Royalton as they  platooned in their backups and the running clock ticked down to zero.  Brunswick take the win in dominating fashion with the final score 49-0.

North Royalton falls to 1-1  and will look to rebound in week three  as they play host to Highland from Suburban League American Division.

Brunswick improves to 2-0 on the season, led by player of the game Senior QB Jacob Scherette who finished the night with 5 total touchdowns, 3 passing and 2 rushing.  The Blue Devils will look to continue their winning ways in week 3 as they host Rhodes.
