Elyria, OH- The to the Baron Cup is on and teams are looking to secure their place in the annual tournament for the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League.  Our game of the week takes us to the White North Division, as the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs come into the game at 11-7, 8-1, they currently sit in the second position in the White North, Amherst 20-4, 5-2 is sitting atop the division.  Both teams look to position themselves for a deep run in the Baron Cup and possibly the state playoffs.  One thing is for certain we are bound to see another great match up in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League.

The 1st period action got underway quickly as the Comets were on a constant attack in the Bulldogs zone.  Amherst would strike first on a goal from Sophomore Joey Kramer at the 11:11 mark the Comets led 1-0.  Not wanting to be outdone by his little brother, Senior Jacob Kramer knocked in a goal of his own at the 7:36 mark of the 1st period.  Olmsted Falls did get some flurries of action in the Comets zone however  outstanding defensive play from the comets goal tender Brady Grove held the Bulldogs scoreless.  At the end of the 1st period Amherst held a 2-0 Lead.

The Bulldogs came out in the 2nd period with a flurry of action that led to a goal by Tom Terrel,  at the 11:50 mark Amherst led 2-1.  Olmsted Falls’ Trevor Patton would score a goal at the 7:56 mark to tie the score 2-2.  Having missed a power play opportunity early in the period comets would not squander another as Joey Kramer would punch one in for the Comets giving him his second goal of the night, and the Comets the lead with 3:16 remaining in the period.  Less than thirty seconds later Bulldogs’ Cole Sigan would score on a breakaway goal and the game was again tied 3-3 with 2:52 left in the 2nd period.  Late in the period Jacob Kramer would score on an unassisted goal, his second of the night, and the period would come to an end with Amherst leading 4-3.

The 3rd period started off with some great defensive play by both teams. The Comets would score on a goal from Nick Ciura and extend their lead to 5-3 at 7:30 left in the period. Amherst’s Nathan Harmych would score thirty seconds later and the Comets led 6-3 with 7:00 remaining in the period.  Cole Sigan would score the only Bulldog goal of the period shortly thereafter, and just like that the score was 6-4 in favor of the Comets.  It was then the Kramer brothers show from that point on with both Jacob and Joey each scoring their 3rd goals of the night to secure the Amherst victory 8-4.

Olmsted Falls now sits 11-8, and 8-2 in league play.  They were led in scoring by Cole Sigan who had two goals on the night.  Olmsted Falls will play North Olmsted to finish out league play on 2/8.

Amherst improved 21-4, 6-2 in league play, they were led by co-players of the game Jacob and Joey Kramer each having 3 goals a piece.  the win secures the white north division for the comets and closes out their league play.  Amherst’s next game will be at the Baron Cup.
