Elyria, OH- It was a beautiful night for High School Football in Week 3 of the 2020 Season. There was a bit of a chill in the air as the two GLC teams get ready to square off from Knights of Columbus Field. Both teams looking to win their first game of the season.
Bay had a great drive going in the first quarter, when a fumble stalled the drive and turned the ball over to the Panthers. Both teams started slow in the first quarter until Elyria Catholic would strike first with a 5 yard touchdown pass from Senior QB Steven Navalinsky to Ball St commit WR Jaret Frantz. The extra point was blocked and the Panthers led 6-0 with 3:10 left in the first quarter.
That is what the score would be after one quarter.
In the second quarter the hitting began to pick up on the defensive side of the ball as both teams had text book tackling. With good tackling comes defensive stops, and both teams went back and forth for most of the second quarter without a score. The Panthers would finally break through. Once again it was the combination of Elyria Catholic QB Steven Navalinsky and WR Jaret Frantz scoring on a 10 yard pass with 10 seconds left until halftime. The Panthers went for the two point conversion and got it with Sophomore RB Levi Ellis running it in. Elyria Catholic led 14-0 at half.
The momentum continued in third quarter for Elyria Catholic as a good drive would end in a 10 yard touchdown by Levi Ellis with 4:03 left in the third quarter. The extra point was no good as the Panthers led 20-0.
Thats how the third quarter would end as the Panthers continued to lead 20-0.
Bay could get nothing going all night as the Elyria Catholic defense stymied a tough Rockets offense. The Panthers would score one more time in the fourth quarter as Navalinsky would connect with another Junior WR Jack Kenneally on a 6 yard pass with 4:19 left. A beautifully thrown ball caught by the 6’6 WR who went up and made a great catch in the corner of the end zone. The extra point was good . Elyria Catholic led 27-0. That is how this game would end as the Panthers dominated on both sides of the ball.
The Bay Rockets fall to 0-1 in the GLC and will travel to Valley Forge (1-0), as the Panthers get their first win of the season and are now 1-1 (1-0 in the GLC). They will host Buckeye at home next Friday night.
Notable Stats:
