Rocky River, OH- A beautiful night set the stage for Week 4 of the high school football season in the Great lakes Conference. For our featured game we traveled to Rocky River High School where the visiting Lakewood Rangers looked to stay a perfect 4-0 as they took on the Rocky River Pirates. The atmosphere was electric and both teams were ready for a big GLC game in front of a great crowd.
It took 3 plays for Rocky River to strike first on a 45 yard touchdown run by RB Tommy Bebie. He was doing it all in the game, supplying the offense with big plays, but making crucial tackles on the defensive side of the ball as well. Lakewood would counter with a talented running back of their own in Hakeem Quran. Quran also played defense and made some nice open field tackles on the night. He answered with a screen pass from QB Luke Winters that hit pay dirt and tied the game at 7-7 with :46 left in the first half. In the second half it was Rocky River scoring first with QB Braedon Spies running it on and taking a 14-7 lead. Again, Lakewood would answer with a Hakeen Quran touchdown to tie the game 14-14. With 2:35 left in the game it was Hakeen Quran scoring from 9 yards out. That proved to be the difference as the Rangers held on the rest of the way. After having 7 touchdowns last week Quran scored all three touchdowns for the Rangers in this game. The Pirates had touchdowns from Tommy Bebie and QB Braedon Spies. Both defenses played physical and tough.
Lakewood outlasted Rocky River 21-14 to improve to 4-0 on the season with Normandy (1-3) up next. Rocky River falls to 2-2 and will face another tough opponent in week 5 Elyria Catholic.
