It the SOT High School Hockey Game of the week!

The Hurricanes found themselves going to their bench as regular goalie Jason Edmonds was a scratch due to the flu. Junior Allen Fernandez was set to tend goal for the hurricanes.  Brooklyn got on the board first with goal from senior forward Gavin Supek.  Supek was assisted on the goal by senior Aaron Wrost.  Hurricanes led 1-0 with 12:14 remaining in the 1st period.  Orange would answer right back with a goal from forward Jason Kornbluth.  Freshman Nathan Rice and Dillon Fellinger both getting assists on the goal.  Orange tied the game 1-1 with 10:02 left in the 1st period.  Kornbluth would score his second goal of the game later in the period, senior Tommy Hill credited with the assist, just like that Orange led 2-1 with 4:03 remaining in the 1st period.  Orange was able to kill a Brooklyn Power play to end the 1st period leading 2-1.

GCHSHL: Dominate Brooklyn Cruises over Brush in Blue League Win

By Sean Duffy

Brooklyn, OH – The Brooklyn Hurricanes were able to dominate the  visiting Brush Arcs to earn their eighth league victory by a score of  10-0 on Thursday night.  The Hurricanes game plan was clear from the opening face off, attack the goal and control the puck for the entire game.

Brooklyn wasted no time getting on the board when  senior Aidan Supek  scored the first two goals, assisted on both by Aaron Wrost.   Cameron Kauffman , assisted by Aaron Wrost, scored midway thru the period to give Brooklyn a 3-0 lead.  Gavin Supek, assisted by Aaron Wrost and David Duggan scored at with 6:08 left in the period.  Matt Crossman, assisted by David Duggan, scored late in the period to give Brooklyn a 5-0 at the 1st intermission.

The 2nd period saw Brooklyn pick up where it left off in the 1st as senior Chad Schnear, assisted by Gavin Supek scored only 15 seconds into the period and just like that the hurricanes were up 6-0.  A running clock from that point on saw Schnear score again on  an unassisted goal, and Cameron Kauffman, assisted by Gavin Supek and Regina Wrost, scored a goal late in the period. Brooklyn took an 8-0 lead into the 2nd intermission.

Brooklyn would knock in two more goals in the 3rd period,  one from Matt Crossman assisted by Aidan Supek and Josh Mussarra. The other goal scored by Gavin Supek, assisted by Riley Beni and Steven Shumney to end the contest.   The final score 10-0 in favor of the hurricanes.

Brush falls to 0-8  in league play and currently sits in seventh place in the Blue South Division.  The lone bright spot for he Arcs was the solid effort of goalie Mike Kornet who despite being under siege since the opening face-off made some really nice stops and saves.  Brush’s next Blue League Game is January 19th against Lakewood.

Brooklyn wins in dominating fashion to improve to 8-0 in League Play and sit in first place in the Blue South Division.  Brooklyn had a total of 78 shots on goal in the contest to Brush’s 1 shot on goal. Aaron Wrost’s 4 assists and Gavin Supek’s 2 goals, and 2 assists earned them player of the game honors.    Brooklyn’s next Blue League game is January 20th against Garfield Heights.
